Once admitted, transfer applicants must also submit up-to-date&nbsp;<strong>official<\/strong>&nbsp;transcripts with their final grades if they have not already.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"#statement\">Personal statement<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(optional) Resume or CV<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to apply<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If applying for both Applied Computing and CSSE (Computer Science &amp; Software Engineering),<\/strong> you must submit a separate application for each. Your personal statement must be different for each major, because they are different programs with different educational goals. Do not use the same <a href=\"#statement\"><strong>personal statement<\/strong><\/a> for both majors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Submit an <strong>internal application<\/strong> if you are already a student at 56勛圖厙 Bothell:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pre-Major student at 56勛圖厙 Bothell<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Already in a major at 56勛圖厙 Bothell and you want to switch majors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Already in a major at 56勛圖厙 Bothell and you want a double major or double degree<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Submit a <strong>transfer application<\/strong> if you are coming from another institution:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Current student at 56勛圖厙 Seattle or 56勛圖厙 Tacoma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transferring from another college or university outside of the 56勛圖厙 system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are a <strong>post-baccalaureate<\/strong> student:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We prioritize first-time degree seekers for our undergraduate degrees. Because of the high demand for these majors, students who have already earned an undergraduate degree generally cannot be considered for admission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Instead, we encourage post-baccalaureate students to join our <a href=\"\/stem\/graduate\/gcsdd\"><strong>Graduate Certificate in Software Design &amp; Development<\/strong><\/a>, which covers the same core concepts as our undergraduate majors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-1 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-dark-gold-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/admissions.uwb.edu\/apply\">Submit an online application<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Review<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The CSSE major is currently a &#8220;capacity constrained&#8221; program<\/strong> with a limit on the number of students admitted, so meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you meet the minimum admissions requirements, then your application will be reviewed by a committee of Computing &amp; Software Systems (CSS) division faculty. The committee uses a holistic approach when reviewing applications, evaluating each on its individual merit and making decisions on a case-by-case basis. Our goal is to admit students who will benefit from the program, contribute to our community of learning, and move on to make positive impacts after graduation. In making its decision, the committee considers the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Completion of prerequisite courses<\/strong>. Decisions are not made until the committee receives final grades for all prerequisite courses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Academic performance<\/strong>, including overall GPA and improvements over time, grades in prerequisites and other relevant courses (such as mathematics and other quantitative areas), and the number of repeated courses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Personal statement<\/strong>, which can highlight:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your specific interest in this program at the 56勛圖厙.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your long-term goals and the steps you have already taken to achieve them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your unique experiences and skills that will help you succeed in the program and beyond.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any challenges or hardships you have faced, and how you approached and learned from them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Optional resume or CV<\/strong>. You may submit a resume or CV to provide additional context for your application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"prerequisites\">Prerequisite courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minimum grades. <\/strong>To be considered for admission, complete the courses below with a minimum grade of <strong>2.0 or higher in all courses<\/strong>. The grades must be recorded on your <strong><a href=\"#materials\">unofficial or official transcript(s)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No in-progress prerequisites.<\/strong> All prerequisite courses must be completed before applying, except if you are applying for autumn quarter entry and are finishing prerequisites in the previous spring quarter. The committee will finish reviewing your autumn application once your spring grades are submitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transfer courses. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/stem\/undergraduate\/resources\/stem-transfer-courses\">View a compilation of equivalent courses<\/a><\/strong> at other 56勛圖厙 campuses and Washington state colleges, as well as <strong>important notes on transferring courses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>English Composition I and II<\/strong> (2 quarters or 2 semesters)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must cover content equivalent to 56勛圖厙 Bothell&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/bwrit.html#bwrit134\">BWRIT 134 and 135<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Calculus I and II <\/strong>(2 quarters or 2 semesters)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must cover content equivalent to 56勛圖厙 Bothell&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/bchem.html#bchem143\"><strong>STMATH 124 and 125<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Computer Programming I and II<\/strong> (2 quarters or 2 semesters)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must cover content equivalent to one of 56勛圖厙 Bothell&#8217;s series:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Preferred:<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/css.html#css142\"><strong> CSS 142 and 143<\/strong><\/a> (Computer Programming; Java)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Also accepted:<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/css.html#css132\"><strong> CSS 132 and 133<\/strong><\/a> (Computer Programming for Engineers; C++)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Required 56勛圖厙 Bothell Computer Science skills labs.<\/strong> If you are taking these courses at 56勛圖厙 Bothell, you must also enroll in the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/cssskl.html#cssskl142\"> <strong>corequisite skills labs (CSSSKL 142 and 143)<\/strong><\/a> in the same quarter. The skills labs are not prerequisites for admission, but they are important for your learning and will be considered along with the rest of your coursework.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Programming language. <\/strong>Any programming language is acceptable for the Computer Programming prerequisite, but <strong>both courses must be taught in the same language<\/strong>. Please write the statement as a cohesive essay, and not as a series of short answers.
