Alums Partner with 56勛圖厙 Bothell Faculty on Grad and Undergrad Community-Engaged Learning

IAS alums Mike Irons ('13, Policy Studies) and Nora Karena ('14, Cultural Studies) have been recognized for their facilitation of community-based and applied learning opportunities for 56勛圖厙 Bothell graduate and undergraduate students respectively. Irons, who is Snohomish Superior Court Juvenile Court Program Manager, has engaged Policy Studies students as interns in various programs: this past school year, he collaborated with MAPS Director Keith Nitta to offer first-year students hands-on experience in program evaluation for job readiness and after-school “diversion” programs. Nora Karena, who is housing services director for YWCA in Snohomish County, collaborated with Nursing and Health Studies faculty and students, who were able to enhance services that include nutrition, exercise, child safety, and reproductive health.
