Hana Bloedel has been selected for a U.S. Student Fulbright grant to Estonia, where she will serve as an English Teaching Assistant. Mariah Crystal (formerly Ortiz) has been granted a Fulbright award to conduct research in Namibia during the 2019-2020 academic year. She will be analyzing the oral history narratives of Namibian women who contributed the anti-apartheid movement and studying how feminine iconography was deployed to further the Namibian War of Independence. Crystal is a Ph.D. student at the University of Kansas in the Department of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. After completing her M.A. in Policy Studies, Crystal co-led the D.C. Human Rights Seminar with IAS faculty member Ron Krabill and was an international admissions advisor at 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell before joining the Peace Corps to serve two years in Namibia. Says Crystal, “My professors and Policy Studies education are foundational to what I am doing now.”
