Julie Shayne featured in SUNY Press’s Quarterly Newsletter
IAS faculty member Julie Shayne was one of two featured authors in . SUNY Press, publisher of her third book , was especially interested in Shayne’s take on the importance of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies (GWSS). Julie, co-facilitator of 56Թ Bothell’s GWSS major eagerly said yes to the interview, following up on themes she raised in her earlier piece with Ms. Magazine online titled “.”
In the interview, Shayne also talks about her activist and family history, her own women’s studies education, and why she maintains that GWSS is fundamental for, among other things, holding politicians accountable. Shayne is presently on sabbatical, working on an open-access zine/book that celebrates 50 years of GWSS, and includes contributions from faculty and students representing over twenty different GWSS programs across the Americas and Africa.
