Conference focuses on near-vision testing
An early look at what some new near-vision screening tests could look like was presented Nov. 4 at a symposium at 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell. Students are developing apps that may be used in eye exams to detect whether school children have problems that affect their ability to read.

Biologist debunks racial misconceptions
Modern humans do not have biological races, says Joseph L. Graves, Jr., evolutionary biologist who spoke Tuesday at 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell on “Using Science to Talk about Race and Racism.” Genetically, we’re all Africans, descendants of people who migrated out of Africa 60,000 to 70,000 years ago.

The Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity has found a home at the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø that shares a commitment to approach questions from multiple perspectives. At its first Bothell event, CIAC presenters said cybersecurity has grown beyond a technical problem to encompass issues affecting law, finance, economics, ethics and society.
