Gates scholarship affirms spider man’s research

Receiving a Mary Gates scholarship gave Camilo Acosta-Garcia a confidence boost in pursuing science as a career. Guided by two faculty members, he researches beetles in the campus wetlands with entomologist Michele Price and collects spiders and insects at Mount St. Helens with plant ecologist Cynthia Chang.

Second cohort of Coca-Cola scholars

The 56³Ô¹ÏÍø received a $115,000 scholarship grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation to help increase the number of students who succeed at becoming the first in their families to graduate on time from a four-year college.

Cruz Garibay wins Fulbright award

56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell graduate Cruz Garibay, who grew up in an immigrant family in Yakima and was the 2015 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Homecoming King, won a 2018 Fulbright grant to Brazil. The fifth 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell recipient of a U.S. student Fulbright award, Garibay will work as an English teaching assistant at a university.

Two electrical engineering students, Daniel Schossow and Manuja Sharma, were honored at a recent meeting of the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society. Both are students of Assistant Professor Hung Cao whose research group is building an international reputation in the field of wireless power transfer.

Lawyer, philanthropist to receive 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell’s 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award

Stephen Ssemaala, a political refugee from Uganda who graduated from the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø and the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø School of Law is the recipient of the 2017 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell Distinguished Alumni Award. Ssemaala is honored for distinguished professional achievements and outstanding community service. The award was established in 2000, and the winner is selected by the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell Alumni Council.

Veterans respected at 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell

Military veterans and their families were honored at a challenge coin and stole ceremony Tuesday in advance of the students’ graduation from the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø. Chancellor Wolf Yeigh gave a coin to each veteran, in the military tradition of carrying custom minted coins, symbolic of unit spirit and pride.
