Borsuk, Carlisle named 2016 Worthington scholars

Amaranth Borsuk and Shauna Carlisle are the winners of the 2016 Worthington Distinguished Scholar awards. Both are assistant professors in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.The funding will support Borsuk’s research on the history of the book as a technology, medium of communication and cultural ideal. Carlisle will advance her health study of black immigrant women in Washington and why racially related stress matters in health disparities.

Lagesse, Shayne win faculty mentor awards

Chancellor Wolf Yeigh has presented Distinguished Undergraduate Research and Creative Practice Mentor Awards to faculty members Brent Lagesse and Julie Shayne. Lagesse is an assistant professor in the Computing and Software Systems Division and an expert in cyber security. Shayne is a lecturer in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences and faculty coordinator for gender, women and sexuality studies.

Amazon selects self-driving bike for $75K grant

Amazon has decided to award $75,000 to support the research of 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Affiliate Professor Tyler Folsom who is developing a self-driving tricycle. Folsom says the money will fund student interns over the next year as they work on the Elcano Project.

Dozens of 56³Ô¹ÏÍø students present their work Friday, May 13, at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Practice Symposium. Presentations and posters about undergraduate research and scholarships in all disciplines, including performing arts, are featured in the forum with peers and faculty.

Leadership degree accelerates career move

A principal who earned her master’s degree in leadership at 56³Ô¹ÏÍø was recently honored as one of 18 to receive the Washington State Regional Distinguished Principal award from the Association of Washington School Principals. Bonnie McKerney is principal at Maltby Elementary.

5 from 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell in inaugural Husky 100

Five 56³Ô¹ÏÍø students are being recognized in the inaugural class of the Husky 100. It's a big win for the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences with all five majoring in society, ethics and human behavior (SEB), notes Natalia Dyba, a member of the Husky 100 tri-campus planning committee.

Marine wins Fulbright teaching award

Brad Lakey, who is finishing his master’s in education, has won a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award and will teach the next school year in Peru. A Marine Corps veteran, Lakey is 56³Ô¹ÏÍø’s 10th Fulbright awardee.

Students present Internet of Things ideas

The two winning teams from the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø and Microsoft sponsored Internet of Things challenge are concluding their projects with a presentation today, April 14, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Makerspace, Discovery Hall Room 464.
