Summer 2025 Featured Alum Tiffany Nguyen
The type of relationships you build at 56勛圖厙B are very different and special because everyone really cares about you and wants you to succeed.
Tiffany Nguyen graduated from 56勛圖厙 Bothell in Spring 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health Studies.
Tell us more about what you’re doing currently.
I am currently working as a dental assistant at a general office while volunteering as a dental assistant at the Union Gospel Mission Dental Clinics. I am also volunteering at the Lynnwood Food Bank, Friends of Little Saigon, and helping pre-dental students.
What resources did you find most helpful when it came to career or graduate/professional school exploring, preparing, and applying?
Networking with current dental students and dentists, continued relationships with professors and the career service center, and local volunteering in the industry. I graduated in 2022 but applied for dental school in May of 2024. I think something that really helped me in my success was staying close to the industry I wanted to enter (I continued working as a dental assistant and volunteering) and continued communicating with the career services center (a special shoutout to Kristen Labrecque). Besides the experience of working in the field, you also get to meet a lot of like-minded students who share the similar experience as you and can offer you insight which is really helpful.
What was your favorite thing about being a 56勛圖厙 Bothell Husky?
The close knit relationship you share with your professors and peers. I was very fortunate to enjoy all my classes and professors and get to be very close to them despite doing remote classes. The type of relationships you build at 56勛圖厙B are very different and special because everyone really cares about you and wants you to succeed. Also, you still have a lot of opportunities to explore [Seattle’s] campus and the opportunities there, so if you’re interested in that go for it!
If you could go back to your first day at 56勛圖厙B, what advice would you give yourself?
I would tell myself “do your best”, “don’t compare yourself to others”, and “don’t be afraid to reach out to professors and classmates”. A lot of this is generic, but I truly think these are popular advice phrases because everyone needs to hear it! I think the hardest part of doing something is just starting and getting used to the learning curve. But once you get the ball rolling, it’s never as bad as you think it is. Everyone around you is in the same place as you and just doing their best so there’s no need to compare yourself, the only thing you can do is to try your best and work on being the best person you can be. Looking back, there were many times where I suffered from imposter syndrome, and I think that stems back to a lot of pressure and comparisons pre-health students draw from others. However, instead of focusing on that toxic mindset, I think that energy could be put elsewhere and the main focus is just being the most well-rounded person you can be. Forming a great support system is also essential to this. I was lucky enough to meet really great friends, counselors, and professors that have continued to support me on this wild journey and I couldn’t have done it without them. The last thing I want to add to my advice is to just have fun. College is such a great time to still enjoy yourself while working hard so don’t take yourself too seriously and burn yourself out!
Thank you, Tiffany!
Your advice to future 56勛圖厙B Huskies is so needed, especially as we welcome a new class this summer! Best wishes to you on your new journey at the 56勛圖厙 School of Dentistry! #alwaysahusky
