Student finds 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell a place to start again

Amanda Morgan was a high-school dropout who fled an abusive marriage. But has re-invented herself, thanks to her own initiative and the help of 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell professors. Morgan expects to graduate in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in biology. She hopes to eventually earn a Ph.D. with the goal of understanding and treating neurobiological brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Busting science myths

First-year 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell STEM students recorded their own myth-busting videos and presented them on a big Imax screen at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. The students also engaged the center’s Discovery Corps of high school interns in thinking about the transition to college.

Hunting human mutations to learn biology

Learning from the pitfalls of previous institutions and guided by the strengths of the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø in areas of collaboration, cross-disciplinary inquiry, and community engagement, Bryan White, a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Biological Sciences, designed an exciting investigative biology class on “Personalized Medicine-Hunting Mutations and Targeting Disease.”
