Competitive searches bring outstanding faculty

The 56³Ô¹ÏÍø welcomes 21 new faculty hires in time for the 2016-2017 school year. Eleven are in School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (IAS). Nine are in School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM). And, one is in the School of Business. Fourteen are lecturers.

Lagesse, Shayne win faculty mentor awards

Chancellor Wolf Yeigh has presented Distinguished Undergraduate Research and Creative Practice Mentor Awards to faculty members Brent Lagesse and Julie Shayne. Lagesse is an assistant professor in the Computing and Software Systems Division and an expert in cyber security. Shayne is a lecturer in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences and faculty coordinator for gender, women and sexuality studies.

Registration for the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø 25th Commencement Ceremony is now open. If you are a graduating senior, you may now register online to participate in the ceremony and order your cap and gown.

Campus Safety Director Cham Kao directs a force of 10 officers, two sergeants, four dispatchers and five part-time students. Kao tells his team their focus is to “ensure that the students who come here have a great college experience -- and find different ways to add value to their experience.”

Yeigh to give BOLD talk

Chancellor Wolf Yeigh will give the Leadership Lesson for the Business and Organization Leadership Development (BOLD) program in the School of Business. Attendees will have an opportunity to hear the veteran naval officer draw on his military experience and leadership in higher education during his interactive presentation on crisis leadership and current events.

Janelle Silva is the recipient of the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø’s 2016 Distinguished Teaching Award. Silva is an assistant professor of community psychology in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.
