Bothell Youth Court dispensing leadership
A funny thing happens in the Bothell Youth Court. The “ultimate jury of your peers” gains from the process as much as the teens who come in with traffic tickets. Two military veterans and a social justice organizer are graduating from the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø with the highest honors in the class of 2016. Army veteran Justin Thompson received the President’s Medal, which recognizes a distinguished academic record.

Students travel, study on global initiatives
56³Ô¹ÏÍø will have 117 students studying abroad this summer and early fall -- the most popular time for students to study abroad.Currently, 8.5 percent of 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell undergraduates study abroad, which is below the national average of about 10 percent. 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell has a goal of reaching 15 percent during the 2019-20 academic year. Samara Reynolds new director of Career Services
Samara Reynolds has joined the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Student Affairs team as the new Director of Career Services. The office helps 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell students build job search skills, explore career interests and connect with employers. Alumni can engage in one-on-one career counseling for free for one quarter after graduation and at a cost after that. They can attend any 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell career events and workshops for free indefinitely.

New AS56³Ô¹ÏÍøB officers, senators for 2016-2017
Tanya Kumar is the newly elected president of Associated Students of the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø. She and 10 others were chosen in the spring elections as the AS56³Ô¹ÏÍøB Executive Council officers and senators for 2016-2017. The officers begin July 1 and the senators Sept. 1.

Dozens of 56³Ô¹ÏÍø students present their work Friday, May 13, at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Practice Symposium. Presentations and posters about undergraduate research and scholarships in all disciplines, including performing arts, are featured in the forum with peers and faculty.

Landing Microsoft job before graduation
Well before Karishma Sharma was scheduled to pick up her University of Washington diploma she had put together an academic and work resume to land a job with Microsoft. The business administration major starts her career June 27th as a Microsoft solution sales specialist in education, selling Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing platform, to schools and colleges.

Husky 5K supports student scholarships
Runners in the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø 5k Run/Walk are not only enjoying a brisk outing with friends they’re also supporting students with much-appreciated scholarships. The event has raised more than $150,000 since its inception and it’s now a part of the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Dawg Dash series.

Leadership degree accelerates career move
A principal who earned her master’s degree in leadership at 56³Ô¹ÏÍø was recently honored as one of 18 to receive the Washington State Regional Distinguished Principal award from the Association of Washington School Principals. Bonnie McKerney is principal at Maltby Elementary.
