Students compete in analyst competition
A team of three 56³Ô¹ÏÍø business students finished high in the annual competition organized by the Chartered Financial Analysts Society of Seattle. The competition with five other schools came down to three finalists. The 56³Ô¹ÏÍø team finished second, continuing a tradition of strong showings.

Seven faculty members from the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences and about 20 56³Ô¹ÏÍø students, alumni and friends are leading an International Women’s Day celebration with a day-long public presentation of their work at the Northwest Film Forum in Seattle.

CROW student journal taking flight
A new peer-review journal for 56³Ô¹ÏÍø students called The CROW is about to take flight. The Campus Research and Observational Writings journal is a place to publish research papers and proposals, literature reviews and editorials. The final deadline for submissions is Tuesday, March 1, at publish@uw.edu

Engaging in oil, coal export decisions

Student finds 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell a place to start again
Amanda Morgan was a high-school dropout who fled an abusive marriage. But has re-invented herself, thanks to her own initiative and the help of 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell professors. Morgan expects to graduate in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in biology. She hopes to eventually earn a Ph.D. with the goal of understanding and treating neurobiological brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Support for first-gen students
The 56³Ô¹ÏÍø is home to a diverse body of students and for many, they are the first in their families to attend college. A first generation college student is a student whose parent(s)/legal guardians have not completed a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university and are the first in their immediate family to attend a college or university.

Busting science myths
First-year 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell STEM students recorded their own myth-busting videos and presented them on a big Imax screen at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. The students also engaged the center’s Discovery Corps of high school interns in thinking about the transition to college.
