The art of empathy in homeless housing

New artworks on the walls of Ronald Commons are especially meaningful to residents of the 60-unit housing development, many of whom were once homeless. They created the art themselves with 56³Ô¹ÏÍø students.

The University of Washington has again earned the highest possible score on The Princeton Review’s Green Rating system, one of 26 colleges and universities out of 648 schools reviewed. The University’s submission included information from the Seattle, 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell and 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Tacoma campuses.

Prospective students researching college are invited to take a tour of the 56³Ô¹ÏÍø campus led by students who can speak from experience. The 90-minute tours start from Husky Hall at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. throughout the year.

56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell helping bring back ‘little red fish’

56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell faculty Jeff Jensen and Rob Turner and their students are working on a project to return once-plentiful kokanee salmon to Lyon Creek in Lake Forest Park. Jensen is using a remote site egg incubator, and Turner is monitoring the water quality of storm runoff.

A talent for teamwork and details

Cindy Shirley, the director of 56³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Office of Research, also is crew chief for the Miss HomeStreet unlimited hydroplane. Shirley showed off the boat on Seattle’s Seafair weekend to undergraduates in 56³Ô¹ÏÍø Bothell’s math and engineering research experience program.
