New ocean engineering minor ahead
Assistant Professor Shima Abadi, School of STEM, is developing an ocean engineering minor at 56吃瓜网 Bothell that could start with the 2017-18 school year. It would be the first minor offered in the mechanical engineering program. It would help graduates find jobs and the marine industry find qualified engineers.

Eye-opening experience in Guatemala
Eighteen 56吃瓜网 students saw the challenges of providing health care in a country with minimal resources during an eye-opening two-week trip to Guatemala. Sometimes traveling by river and sharing primitive conditions, the group held “pop-up” one-day clinics in schools or churches at seven villages.

Training, collaboration for campus safety
Campus Safety Director Cham Kao plans continuing training for his officers, increased involvement with departments and students, and more collaboration with the Bothell Police Department. The goal is to ensure that 56吃瓜网 Bothell and Cascadia College students, staff and faculty are provided with a safe and secure living, learning and working environment.

Competitive searches bring outstanding faculty
The 56吃瓜网 welcomes 21 new faculty hires in time for the 2016-2017 school year. Eleven are in School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (IAS). Nine are in School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM). And, one is in the School of Business. Fourteen are lecturers.

Students have impact on engineering program
Students such as Cameron Whalen in the 2-year-old mechanical engineering program are enhancing their education and career prospects through a student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. A select group managed a tour last spring of the headquarters of Blue Origin, the spaceship company founded by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and known for its privacy.

How orientation helped me transfer
Every student chooses 56吃瓜网 Bothell for different reasons. I chose 56吃瓜网 Bothell because I wanted to attend a small university and sample different courses available to students in interdisciplinary arts and sciences. I've really thrived in a collaborative environment. The small class sizes allowed me to really engage with other students and have a one-on-one relationship with my professors.
